What usually matters
- A permit to search for work or start a business after completing your studies.
- Direct switch to employee or self-employed residence without leaving Spain.
- Deadlines are strict — the change is usually requested around the end of the student permit, and no later than 90 days after it expires.
- Earlier refusals of job-search permits do not necessarily block a new application filed on time.

What decides the file
Timing. Most options must be requested close to the end of the student permit, and the window closes shortly after it expires. Start planning a few months before graduation so that documents and, if needed, a business plan are ready in time.
